Dehydration
Is it compulsory to drink 8 glasses of water a day?
After a workout, we feel thirsty, hence we drink water. Is it
necessary to drink a lot of it?
NO. If there is one health myth that will not die, it is this.
There is no scientific proof supporting the claim to drink 8 glasses or 2 liters of water each day.
There is no scientific proof supporting the claim to drink 8 glasses or 2 liters of water each day.
The risk of dehydration is way overblown. Media constantly inundates
us to drink a lot of fluids during summer.
The source of this myth was a 1945 Food and Nutrition Board
recommendation that said people need about 2 to 2.5 liters of water a day, but
the next line was ignored which said, most of the water is already contained in
prepared foods.
So you may ask, how do we know how much water to
drink? This is pretty simple… when you feel thirsty. That’s how you know. There is no
scientific evidence that drinking extra water is beneficial to our health.
This myth is popularized by sports drink companies that rely
on us drinking their products.
Just remember: you don’t need 8 glasses a day.
